September 2024 Newsletter: Back to School Spirit

As summer transitions to fall, we're getting that nervous and excited back to school feeling. We encourage you to harness that energy and use it to inspire and motivate you. This is a great time to settle back into a healthy routine with work, exercise and food. If you have the time, you can even learn a new skill. We've included some of our picks to help get you into that back to school spirit, whether your school years are far behind or not.

Learn more about our top picks to get that back to school feeling.

1. One of the number one causes of fatigue is low iron or anemia. If you've ever had this, you know it can be tough to find a good supplement to get your stores up. Try American Supplements Iron Health, made with 16 iron-supporting nutrients in a formula that's gentle on your gut.

2. If you're looking to build some muscle this fall, try maximizing endurance and recovery with Beta-Alanine. American supplements has created a highly absorbable sustained release formula Beta-Alanine to give you that edge at the gym.

3. If you suspect your kiddo isn't digesting their food well, you may want to consider digestive enzymes. Enzymedica has created a sugar-free chewable that works throughout the digestive tract to help kids absorb all the nutrients from their food.

4. You may know that creatine helps build muscle, but did you know carnitine can help increase energy as well as support muscle recovery? Life Extensions has combined the two to give you an extra boost at the gym this fall.

5. Good sleep is an important part of any health regimen. Get deeper better sleep with Doctor's Best Women's Beauty Sleep, which combines magnesium for relaxation with several supporting herbs and nutrients, including lemon balm for calm and melatonin for deeper sleep.

6. As the sun starts setting earlier, it can be tough to get your Vitamin D. If you're looking for a natural, vegan version, try Natural Factors Whole Earth & Sea Vitamin D3 & K2

7. Looking for a make-up removing wipe that's actually good for your skin and the planet? Burt's Bees Micellar Cleansing Towelettes combine coconut and lotus water for a gentle cleanse with a plant-based towelette that is 60% upcycled cotton that's even compostable!

8. If you're already hitting the gym but looking for something to help with recovery and inflammation, Terry Naturally has created a PEA Healthy Inflammation Response formula. PEA has been shown in studies to help with muscle pain and reduce inflammation

*It's always a good idea to consult your healthcare provider when taking new supplements. This newsletter is not intended to treat or diagnose any medical conditions.

So, how do you apply that back-to-school feeling to your health? Here are some ideas to inspire you as we transition to fall:

1. Learn a new form of exercise If you're a runner, try yoga. If you're a gym head, try a dance class. Learning a new skill is great for your brain at any age and training your body in different ways can benefit your muscles, strength and endurance.

2. Try a new veggie in the kitchen - Challenge yourself to try cooking a vegetable you've never cooked before. Look up some fun recipes ahead of time and enjoy the benefits of new phytonutrients. Some ideas are to cook beets (roasted with goat cheese is nice), mustard greens (sauteed with spices) or try roasting sunchokes.

3. Try a new cuisine in the kitchen - This is a related idea, but requires a little more planning. Try a new cultural cuisine. If you've never made Thai food, Indian food or Middle Eastern food now is a great time to start. Pick a recipe online, gather the spices and wow your family with new flavors.

4. Add a new supplement - This doesn't mean you should take any old supplement regardless of need, but many folks can benefit from basic supplements like multivitamins, vitamin D and omega-3s. Talk to your doctor or dietitian to find out what supplements might be best for you.

5. Consider seeing a dietitian - This isn't just shameless self-promotion. If you feel like you're unsure what to eat to help support your long-term health, it may be time to see a registered dietitian. We're the experts on nutrition and can help with conditions like heart health, diabetes, hormone health and so much more. Be sure to find someone with the real credential (RD) to avoid getting advice that isn't science-backed.
