Summer's coming to an end but that doesn't mean you can't make the most of it and end strong. Now's a great time to get outdoors and enjoy that late summer sun, take a beach walk at sunset or go paddle boarding while it's still warm enough. 5 Ways To End Summer Strong

As summer transitions to fall, it's a great time to make sure you're boosting strength and immunity. Check out our top 5 ways to end summer strong this year.

  1. Start a Strength Training Routine - If you aren't already, now is a great time to start strength training. It will help you boost metabolism for a healthier fall and supports longevity and mobility.
  2. Enjoy Late Summer Produce - Late summer produce is bountiful and full of antioxidants. Summer squash, heirloom tomatoes, corn, eggplant and peppers are all excellent sources of phytonutrients and fiber. Enjoy them fresh, grilled or sauteed.
  3. Get Some Sun Exposure - While you still can, get a little bit of natural vitamin D. This doesn't mean you have to avoid sunblock - just allow yourself some time out in the sun with exposed skin.
  4. Do a Protein Audit - Protein is the foundation of healthy muscles. The recommended amount is .8 grams per kilogram of body weight, but I find that my clients usually do well somewhere in the range of 1 - 1.5 grams per kilogram of body weight (.5-.8 g/lb), depending on how much strength training you do. Audit how much you're getting daily and make sure you're in an optimal range.
  5. Prep Your Immune System for Fall - Not only does your immune system love protein (all white blood cells are made of mostly protein), it loves anti-inflammatory nutrients like vitamin C, curcumin, beta-carotene and zinc. Get plenty of fruits and veggies and consider supplements if your diet isn't meeting your needs, so you can help prepare yourself for the summer cold and flu season.
