Wild Alaskan Fish Oil For the Future

The fisheries management system is regulated to protect the environment so that future generations can enjoy the benefits of Alaska fish. Quotas are set for total allowable catches of a fish species to protect the fishery eco-system. These catch results are indexed and compared to previous years to monitor the health of the fish population.

They not only care for the fish species that we catch for processing, but for other fish species (called bycatch) that are pulled aboard during fishing. Government-approved officials onboard the fishing boats record the catches and the bycatch to ensure they are within regulations. If not, the complete closure of a fishing target area or a target fishery can occur. That’s why the goal at Wiley’s Finest is to guarantee everlasting sustainability of our primary fish populations.
They use molecular distillation and carbon treatment to remove environmental contaminants from the products. Every single lot of the fish oil ingredients and finished softgel products are tested for heavy metal content (lead, cadmium, mercury, and arsenic) by trusted independent, third party laboratories. All of the products exceed the stringent limits in the Global Organization for EPA and DHA (GOED) voluntary monograph and the limits set forth by California Proposition 65, both of which are more stringent than the FDA’s own published limits on heavy metals in foods and supplements. These are the most stringent standards in the world, far lower than the levels typically found in drinking water.

THE PUREST OMEGA-3 PRODUCTS

Wiley’s Finest Wild Alaskan Fish Oil is proud to be a member of the GOED organization and support their mission to educate consumers on the health benefits of EPA & DHA and produce high quality concentrated Omega-3 products.

Our manufacturing facility is regularly inspected by the FDA about once a year. The Quality Assurance department inspects all products throughout the process to make sure each lot meets the high standards set for our Wiley’s Finest products. Each carton is signed by the Wiley Family to convey the trust they have in their products and the quality they deliver to their customers.

Natural Sugar Alternatives

As the harmful effects of sugar and high fructose corn syrup become increasingly more evident, people are turning to natural alternatives.

A sweetener that has become very popular in the past few years is coconut sugar.

This sugar is derived from the coconut palm tree and is touted as being more nutritious and lower on the glycemic index than sugar.

There is a lot of talk about this sweetener online and I’d like to separate the facts from the fiction.

What is Coconut Sugar and How is it Made?
Coconut sugar is also called Coconut Palm Sugar.

It is a natural sugar made from sap, which is the sugary circulating fluid of the coconut plant. It is often confused with Palm Sugar, which is similar but made from a different type of palm tree.

Coconut sugar is made in a natural 2-step process:

A cut is made on the flower of the coconut palm and the liquid sap is collected into containers.
The sap is placed under heat until most of the water has evaporated.
s it More Nutritious Than Regular Sugar?
Regular table sugar and high fructose corn syrup don’t contain any vital nutrients and therefore supply “empty” calories.

However, coconut sugar does retain quite a bit of the nutrients found in the coconut palm. There isn’t a lot of data on this, but according to the Phillipine Department of Agriculture, coconut sugar contains several nutrients (1):

Most notable of these are the minerals Iron, Zinc, Calcium and Potassium, along with some short chain fatty acids, polyphenols and antioxidants that may also provide some health benefits.

Then it contains a fiber called Inulin, which may slow glucose absorption and explain why coconut sugar has a lower glycemic index than regular table sugar (2).
Coconut Sugar May Have a Lower Glycemic Index
The glycemic index (GI) is a measure of how quickly foods raise blood sugar levels. Glucose is given a GI of 100 and if a food has a GI of 50, then it raises blood sugar half as much as pure glucose.

Once Again Nut Butters

Have you tried Once Again Nut Butters?

Almond butter contains beneficial magnesium and vitamin E. Like calcium, magnesium contributes to the health of your bones. It also helps you produce energy, as well as synthesize fatty acids needed for energy storage. A serving of almond butter offers 89 milligrams of magnesium, which is 28 percent of the daily recommended intake for women and 21 percent for men. Vitamin E supports health communication between your cells, and prevents blood lipid oxidation, which is a process linked to cardiovascular disease. Consuming 2 tablespoons of almond butter boosts your vitamin E intake by 7.8 milligrams and provides 52 percent of your recommended daily intake. Almond butter offers cardiovascular benefits because of its fiber and fat content. Each serving of almond butter contains 18 grams of fat, made up primarily of unsaturated fatty acids. These fats improve your blood cholesterol levels to combat cardiovascular disease, and also provide energy. Fiber also benefits your cholesterol levels, and following a diet rich in fiber can reduce your coronary heart disease risk by up to one-third, notes the Linus Pauling Institute. A 2-tablespoon serving of almond butter offers 3.3 grams of fiber, which is 9 percent of the recommended daily intake for men and 13 percent for women.

Almond Flour Benefits

Why Almond Flour?

I am asked this question at least once a day. Almond flour is highly nutritious, easy to use and readily available. For those of us watching our glycemic index, almond flour is high in protein, low in carbohydrates and low in sugars.

Unlike other alternatives to wheat flour, almond flour is moist and delicious. After having tested just about every gluten free flour out there, I can save you a lot of time and hassle when I say that almond flour is far superior to other flours in terms of taste, nutrition and ease-of-use.
